The story of an everyday person and their unexpected encounter…
“We will be at your house for an hour.” A young computer programmer suddenly receives a package, and his life turns into a black comedy.
The package is delivered by three couriers, not one. For some inexplicable reason, the couriers do not immediately deliver the package. They stay in Sergei’s house, discuss unrelated things, and when asked when they will finally leave and let him be in peace, their answer is, “We told you when we called you that we would be at your house for an hour. And now we have to stay with you for an hour.” How does one deal with this situation? Who are these couriers, and what do they want? What is inside the package? And why is Sergei, a rational and healthy young programmer, “…such a fool?”
Everyone is asked to find their own answer.
The author himself, Dmitry Danilov, when asked about the theme of the work “Sergei is such a fool,” gave the following answer:
“I would say that this work is about how in the simple, everyday life of the “person next door”, something inexplicable could invade at any moment – and how this person is necessarily called upon to confront, to react to this invasion.”
Director’s Note:
For me, in this work, behind the comic situations, there is an inexhaustible depth that reveals a very timely, serious, and human reflection. How vulnerable is a person in the face of the system’s mechanisms?
Through the situations in the play, in their comic representation, we see our own reality… and there the laughter stops…
The characters in the work are so “recognizable” that everyone can see themselves through the characters in the performance.
Along with political satire, rejection of authoritarianism, extreme liberal ideas, and the absurdity of the proposed condition in the play, there is a central axis as a reflection in the work – the existence of the individual and individual responsibility in the face of the system and personal perception of the world.
