PERFORMANCES

Versions of the Representation. Allegories and Events.

In this exhibit, Marta Biagini composes settings in which a total, symbolic, persistent and comforting space is experienced as a transcendental relationship with man.

Always with her own art works, the artist creates surreal snapshots and reversals of the performance. She paints spaces of presence but also heterotopical, narrative and enclosed spaces. We ,observe symbols and references to reality that intertwine with each other. The artist surveys the influences of the Italian artistic tradition (Renaissance and Metaphysics) on the teachings of Greek harmony, epicentre and measure. Marta Biagini employs in an almost mathematical manner a combination of variables, symbols and reconstructions and this combination expresses her relationship with a metaphorical world. These forms find their raison d’être within other forms, producing an exploration that is constantly renewed from composition to composition. In this way, she conveys in her work a new image, a new idea, or a new impression which are created in her conscience by an external reality. Through the theatrical event, Marta Biagini aims to maintain a lively communication between the spectator and her work. She depicts a “present” by staging situations with elements distributed among the different parts, creating a new and ingenious visual space for action.

As a visual artist, “approaching” a play for Marta Biagini essentially means understanding it in depth and inventing a way to interpret it. She chooses the climax and main features which will retell the plot. She is not only concerned with “what it says”, but also with “how” and “why”. All of this leads her to manage the simultaneity dictated by the painting, in contrast to the temporal sequence that evolves from scene to scene during the performance.

How is the plot, climax, and conflict presented? What does the protagonist want? What is expected, what hinders, how do the aspects of the roles change within the play? What is the underlying emotion? What is not presented but implied? Which of these elements, and how, are drawn onto a surface?

Finally, as a bearer of memory and interaction, Marta Biagini cannot remain untouched by difficult current events. There, performance as reminiscence transforms into tragedy. Existential and social matters now touch upon the need to record and denounce.
