In this new century, Contemporary Dance in Cyprus is growing dramatically. Young Cypriot choreographers and dancers are making their presence felt through works reflecting upon vital issues of our times, showing diligent study, skill and hard work often hiding twists and surprises which create a lively, interesting and high level environment for Cypriot Contemporary Dance.
It is with great joy that the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation will be organizing the Young Cypriot Choreographers Platform barefeet days from Tuesday 3rd until Friday 6th of June 2014.
The young Cypriot artists, having completed an interesting range of studies at top-level schools and at University Foundations and with ensembles in Europe and the U.S., along with the dynamic support of the Ministry of Education and Culture / Cultural Services and other institutions in Cyprus, have returned with valuable experiences which will contribute to the development and expansion of modern dance as much in their home country as abroad.
Through barefeet days, the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation once again offers the opportunity for an artistic rapport between young artists of the two countries which Michael Cacoyannis equally considered his homeland, with the goal of introducing the latest choreographies, choreographers and artists of the Megalonissos. These are works which resonate the rising of Cypriot choreographed productions which rival works and performances at international events abroad. Works which unearth the wealth of creativity, imagination and inspiration and the spirit and introspection of Cypriot choreographers.
Participating in the barefeet days of contemporary Cypriot dance are the choreographers: Elena Antoniou, Alexis Vassiliou, Milena Ugren Koula and Harry Koushos, whilst the event will be enriched by an open round table discussion with the title Communication with the International Dance Scenein motion and a workshop by Alexis Vasiliou on the subject of somatization of pleasure.
With the occasion of barefeet days on Tuesday, 3rd June 2014, from 15:30-18:30, the choreographer / director Alexis Vassiliou will be holding an audition for his next production.
