The new, significant, three-year program of Michael Cacoyannis Foundation entitled ANCIENT GREEK DRAMA: “Influences & Contemporary Approaches”

Despite the unbearable conditions in the capital city due to the blistering heat, on Monday July 16th 2012, the journalists interest as well as their honorary attendance turned the press conference of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation into a success.

The Foundation presented the Act entitled ANCIENT GREEK DRAMA: Influences and Contemporary Approaches which is going to take place for a three – year period (2012 2014), co financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry of Education & Religion Affairs, Culture & Sports as part of the Attica Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013.

The new, significant three-year program of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation takes shape in collaboration with important international Universities, while for this 1st year, in collaboration with the Stanford University (Stanford Summer Theater).

The program was presented to the media and press representatives by Xenia Kaldara, MCF Vice President & General Director, Dimitris Yolassis, MCF Administration & Program Consultant and Alexandra Georgopoulou, MCF International Relations Manager.

Salutations were addressed by the Minister of Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Mr. Kostis Chatzidakis as well as the Deputy Minister of Education & Religion Affairs, Culture and Sports, Mr. Kostas Tzavaras.

Moreover, screenings followed with recorded messages by Rush Rehm, Professor of Classics and Drama at the Stanford University of San Francisco, Founder and Artistic Director of Stanford Summer Theatre (SST), as well as by Katerina Zacharia, Professor of Classics at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles and coordinator of the program Ancient Drama: Influences and Modern Approaches in the U.S.A. for 2012.

This is a three year program (2012 2014) to promote research and study of the ancient drama with an aim to build an international communication dialogue as well as discussion network between artists that pose different artistic approaches.

The program consists of three distinct projects and collaborations. Every project will last for about a month every September- and it will be accomplished in cooperation with foreign recognized universities.

The program begins the following September, in collaboration with Stanford Summer Theater (SST) of the Stanford University located in the U.S., featuring Wanderings of Odysseus (based in Homers Odyssey) translated by Oliver Taplin adapted and directed by Rush Rehm and it will be presented at Michael Cacoyannis Foundations main theatrical hall from September 12 to September 15.

At the same time, an intensive seminar as well as, workshops that are concentrated on the epic dramatization and staging will be held at MCF by preeminent Stanford University & SSTs instructors starting on September 5th.

The seminar and workshops are aimed at Drama School graduates and students, as well as Τheatrical, Classical and Pedagogy Studies graduates and students and are free of charge.
