Theatre welcomes George Panousopoulos and Night Porter. An encounter on stage that paid off

One of the great Greek cinematographers, the director who illustrated uniquely love on film of legendary movies, like Honeymoon Journey, Love Knot, Love me not? or A foolish love, has been attracted, for the first time in his career by the theatrical stage, rather thanks to his curiosity as he claims himself, directing the performance The Night Porter.

George Panousopoulos approaches again a passionate erotic affair making his début in our countrys theatrical proceedings. Trusting the adapted by Chara Tsioli scenario of the film by Liliana Cavani that has been a landmark for cinema history, George Panousopoulos talks to mcf.gr for a happy coincidence as well as collaboration with all the production members that finally paid off.

In cooperation with extraordinary actors, Takis Chrysikakos and Maria Tsaroucha, who undertook the leading roles as well as with the decisive contribution of Zacharias Rochas and Dimitris Kalantzis who complete the demanding cast, George Panousopoulos invites us to see afresh the subject of a film-landmark. There Nazism is being identified with the sexual perversion of sadomasochism experienced to its extreme limits, while here director sees two people being alone. Two people that couldnt do otherwise

At Michael Cacoyannis Foundation I felt most like home when I decided to create my first theatrical work. For the same reason, I felt more freely to adapt a film story from the screen to the stage. The preference for Chara Tsioli to undertake the attempt of the adaptation did really pay off to me, while the actors full consent to cooperate with a fifty-year old man was full of enthusiasm. Finally I asked for the help of a daring film producer and paid off as well. This way we ended to the play presented from today at MCF.
