The Michael Cacoyannis Foundation presents this season’s new production and her team, for children and parents alike. Once again Carmen Rouggeri turned to the younger generation, asking them to decide for themselves which performance they would like to see this year. And so, this season comes “THE QUEST OF THE ARGONAUTS”, at the Michael Cacoyannis Theatre Stage.

The production starts off with the myth of Phrixus and Helle in order to introduce the Golden Fleece and explain how it ended up in Colchis. From there we move onto the birth of Jason at Iolcus, Magnesia, and his early years, entrusted to the care of the Centaur Chiron and his decision to go on the quest to bring the Golden Fleece back to his homeland. What’s more, we will also discover how and by whom the ship Argo was built and how the brave young Greeks replied to Jason’s call to join him on his long journey. Along with the Argonauts, we will travel to Limnos, and Troy, passing through Ellispontos and onto Kyziko, Myseia and, finally, via the Cyanean Rocks and the Isle of Aris, we will arrive at Colchis. Here, Jason meets Medea, who will help him retrieve the Golden Fleece.

The production doesn’t end there, however! The journey home will prove to provide many more adventures along the way… The impressive and original costumes and set design by Christina Couloumbis, the inspired choreography and lighting of Petros Galias, the music and songs of Pontos, as selected to accompany the performance, by Constantinos Paleologou, with lyrics by Andreas Couloumbis and adapted by Antonis Delaportas, are sure to captivate not only the young spectator but the entire family as well, in a performance-based upon in-depth knowledge and study of the wonders of Greek mythology, in a script by Karmen Rouggeri.
