16 mirrors | A concert-performance by Nikos Papadogiorgos

Songs are a way of looking at oneself. They provide reflections of our world, inner and outer. Of our society. Of historical circumstance. They help us read situations, actualize dreams and, sometimes, restore the truth. The composer, Nikos Papadogiorgos, prompted by the release of his first album, entitled Stavrodromi (Crossroad), is introducing himself with a concert-performance at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation on Friday 13th May 2016, at 21:30. During the performance he will present 16 songs, orchestrated and set to music by him, the lyrics written by colleagues. The lyricists are: Giorgos Gonias, Anthi Mitropetrou, Stavros Stavridis and Marilena Kavvada, along with the poet: Vaggelis Kassos. Nikos Papadogiorgos applies their words to 16 songs, 16 mirrors, like reflections of life.These are songs which marry the Greek and surrounding Mediterranean musical tradition with the harmony of Western European music. The composer has achieved a coalescence of in many cases diverse elements and influences which have formed a very personal and aesthetic result.

With the participation of three exceptional musicians, Michalis Kataxanas, viola, Dimitris Papadopoulos, trumpet and flugelhorn, Dimitris Tsekouras, bass, and himself at the piano, Nikos Papadogiorgos has composed a dreamy voyage with 16 stops, 16 snapshots, 16 reflections of life. These are accomplished with the assistance of Zacharias Karounis, Eftixia Mitritsa and Charitini Panopoulou on vocals. Opposite them, on the other side of the mirror, casting back and interpreting their reflections, is the actress Eleni Zachopoulou.The concept, script and direction of the performance bears the signature of Stavros Stavridis.
