"Pain, just something they have to live with…" | A recital dedicated to the refugees

“Pain, just something they have to live with…” | A recital dedicated to the refugees

“Refugees.  Persecuted. Uprooted…All of us in the East and the West.
North and South. In these terrible times in which we happen to live.
All of us as brothers. Living on a scarred Earth.
Under the same unforgiving sky…”

On the first day of Spring and World Poetry Day, the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in cooperation with the Iros Angelos Dance Theatre and the Doctors of the World turn to the words of our great poets, to the music which adorns these turbulent times, to well known names of literature and the arts and to young artists and actors who are experiencing unprecedented situations and who are agonizing over the future, to assist, as much as is possible, these new victims of the times. All together we are issuing an invitation to a recital dedicated to the refugees, as a small offering of good will. On Monday 21 March 2016, at 21:00, with donations of medicines and food instead of tickets, at the Theatre of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. During the first part of the evening, the words of our great poets come to remind us, once again, of that which connects us to our fellow human beings, who are living as refugees. Seferis, Ritsos, Elytis, Anagnostakis, Katsaros and many more knew well of the great world issues and continue to speak of  them today, with insight and from the heart. During the second part of the evening, which is dedicated to the poet Manos Eleftheriou, we get to enjoy his poems, set to music and interpreted by their composers. There is just one wish and that is that the evil will stop here, the war will end and there will be no further wars, no more uprooting and no more refugees.
