“Voz Latina” | The Big Band of the Municipality of Athens in cooperation with Arlyn Gonzalez in a Latin jazz musical evening
The Big Band of the Municipality of Athens meets Arlyn Gonzalez in the concert Voz Latina which is being presented by the City of Athens Cultural, Sport and Youth Organisation on Wednesday 24 February 2016 at 20:00, at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. The unique rhythm of Big Band and the captivating voice of the Cuban singer will transport the crowd through music of the world with a Latin jazz beat.
Arlyn Gonzalez
Arlyn Gonzalez was born in Havana, Cuba. From the age of 7 she started to study music at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory. She continued her music studies at ENA (National School of Fine Arts) in Cuba and in 93 she joined the group MEZCLA as a vocalist and pianist, touring a host of European countries and taking part in various international festivals such as the World Music Mariannensplatz Festival, Berlin, the Skagen Festival, Denmark, the Karrebaeksminde Jazz Festival, Hafenfest, Hamburg, Germany. Since 2002 she has been living in Greece and has collaborated with various renowned artists such as Dimitris Sevdalis a the Athens Concert Hall, Elena Paparizou, Sakis Rouvas, Anna Vissi, Andonis Remos and more.
The Municipality of Athens Big Band
Big Band was formed in 1998 on the initiative of the virtuoso pianist Yannis Terezakis and since then has had a very active and important presence in the musical events of the Municipality of Athens as well as the rest of Greece.
Its repertoire includes historical compositions and orchestrations from the pioneering artists of musical philology and also covers a wide range of music of jazz influence.
Big Band has performed at all the big venues and music and art festivals in Athens, Thessaloniki and regional Greece and been directed by top conductors and composers of the jazz and contemporary scene, such as William Russo and Don Owens whilst it has also collaborated with distinguished Greek and foreign soloists.
The musicians who make up Big Band have been chose from amongst the top Greek soloists and are recognized for their high level of skill in improvisation and their ability to adapt their interpretations to the various jazz trends.
