Yerma by Federico Garcia Lorca | A symphonic theatrical ballad at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation

Trapped in a marriage that has never been her own choice, seeing motherhood as her only escape, Yerma does whatever she can in order to fulfill herself  according to the social norms of her time and to give a meaning to her life. No matter how hard she tries, she can’t escape her fate, as “yerma” means infertile. The child that never comes becomes an obsession that drives her to crime…

“Yerma”, part of Federico Garcia Lorca´s pastoral trilogy and a leading theatrical play of the international repertoire, is staged on Monday 29 February 2016 at the theater of Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, in the form of a symphonic theatrical ballad, featuring original music composed by Nikos Chadjieleftheriou, translated by Peroulis Sakellaridis and adapted for theater by Edouardos Georgioy and Anastasia Diamantopoulou. Elly Paspala performs as a soloist while Alexandra Aidini, Konstantinos Aspiotis and Ioanna Aggelidi hold the main roles. Along with them the Underground Youth Orchestra under the conduction of Costa Eliades.
