“What is in excess” directed by Aimylia Papadakou | The modern greek poetry tranforms into a theatrical act

A woman and a man talk to each other. They define their beggining and their ending. Between them is what is left. They exist, they co-exist, they become. They switch, they confront each other. They crash, they cloak themselves in. Between them is what is inexcess. They reach for it, they search it, they find it. Is it needed or not? It’s a play where the modern greek poetry trusts its voice to a man and woman giving them parts so that the daily routine would synchronize with the poetic act. It’s a play where the words of the modern Greek poets create an exceptional field between male and female. Their relationship as a humane act and action in a particular historic time and space remind us that the poetry has certainly a political core.

“Because when I talk about lyrics
I’m talking about something that
happens in you and in me.”

A few words about the play
A room, a village, a country are the environment of a woman and a man. An enigmatic presence moves around them. Essential in their eyes, essential for their being and their co-existence. She urges their actions but in the same time she harasses them. She thinks like them but at the same time she is opposite. She brings out memories, thoughts, senses and emotions. She leads them into romantic spaces but int war zones too.
“But who are you anyway?” we asked her.
And she said “I am what is in excess.”
