“The girl who wanted to touch the crescent moon” – A timeless fairytale for children by the contemporary experimental shadow theatre ParaMana Puppet Theatre

The tale is based on the Japanese story “Tsuki no waguma” – “The crescent moon bear” and is about the adventurous journey of a little girl who decides to save her father’s troubled soul when he comes home after the war. The show highlights the dramatic consequences of war and how it is recorded on the human soul. ParaMana Puppet Theatre uses three dimensional shadows of minuscule figurines that derive as projections of three dimensional images from an original handmade projector on a screen. The show is enriched with electronic music and live narration offering an unparalleled experience of shadow theatre performance.

After the show, we present to the audience our equipment and materials, figures and modern techniques and also discuss about the main themes of the play as well as other relevant issues also raised by it. “The Crescent Moon Bear” show has travelled through Europe and Greece to International Puppet Theatre Festivals retracting enthusiastic reviews. It has been presented to numerous elementary schools around the country and to the M. Cacoyannis Foundation in Athens.
