The Enchanted Princess with Athina Pappa
The Enchanted Princess is not a fairytale for children. It is a torrential monologue, the heroine of which is a woman who, following a failed attempt at suicide, tells the tale of her life through a colourful narration and the blackest of humour.
The performance with Athina Pappa but also with the necessary addition of Mariliza Redl, in text and direction by Constantinos Rodis & Ioannis Kifonidis, after the completion of its first cycle, and with the certain increasing interest of the spectators and critics, is extended for two extra performances, on Tuesday 17 & 24 March 2015, at 21:30.
Critics and audiece praised the effort of the leading actress Athina Pappa, who two days before te premiere had an accident that made her stay on a wheelchair on stage. Mariliza Redl took deservedly over the performance of the role in the scenes that the leading actress should be standing.
With references to Marlene Dietrich, Aliki Vougiouklaki, the women of Asia Minor with their prejudices and suspiciousness, the performance manages to connect the memories of yesterday with today. Athina Pappa in the role of the Enchanted Princess, dominates with her exuberant presence and her unique voice in a collision of different worlds. She changes both character and costume on stage. She transforms into a cabaret dancer, dancing sensually, provocatively, interacting with the crowd, she might even ask you for a
cigarette!
She lives the manic depression of the heroine who manages to self-ridicule, to satirize, to comment upon and to laugh and dream
and all this whilst sitting in a wheelchair.
