“The girl who wanted to touch the crescent moon” – a timeless fairytale for teenagers by the Contemporary experimental shadow theatre ParaMana Puppet Theatre

The performance is based on the Japanese fairytale Tsuki no Waguma – The Crescent Moon Bear, a timeless fairytale for teenagers, which takes us back to the times of trench warfare and its irreversible consequences. “The girl who wanted to touch the crescent moon” is a one of a kind performance from the point of view of technique and equipment used in Greece, with three-dimensional depiction of the shadows, projections from a makeshift manual projector, live narration and electronic music.

The ParaMana Puppet Theatre invites you to the performance “The Girl who wanted to touch the crescent moon” in which the basic representational technique used is three-dimensional depiction of the shadow, projections from a makeshift manual projector and live electronic music and narration.
The story has been borrowed from Japanese spoken folklore.  It speaks of love and of bravery and the self-sacrifice of a little girl who begins a difficult and adventure-filled journey to save her father’s soul.  The performance looks at the meaning of war as an integral part of history and underlines the tragic consequences  resulting from it.
How does one speak to a child of the futility and absurdity of war?  Does one tell them of all that is the exact opposite:  of peace and of history, of greater ideals and timeless human values, so that they may be in a position, as they grow up, to evaluate their world, to have a sense of justice and solidarity and to chose their own methods of communication with others, doing away with violence.  Love, says the fairytale, is strong and can make anything happen.
At the end of the performance is a second stage of the production which involves a discussion regarding the topics touched upon by the performance as well as a backstage tour of the Contemporary Experimental Shadow Theatre where the kids can discover the technical and construction secrets involved in ParaMana.

The performance can be presented in three foreign languages: English, French, Italian.
