“TOWN WITH WOODEN SHUTTERS”
a theatrical installation

Concept – Text – Direction: Niki Orfanou

From Monday 20 October to Tuesday 11 November 2014
in Michael Cacoyannis Foundation

Two voices, a female and a male. And their enemy, the world: the phone that keeps ringing, the leak in the roof, the old woman’s radio upstairs, the fruit that expires in the bottom shelf, the debt, the silence, the rubbish bag that is dripping, chronic grumpiness, the new day that seems to be a repetition of the old. Daily habits, needs, desires, all those things that make up the narrative of our being in the world and assure us that our lives are special.

The voices swirl between the private and the public, imagination and observation, the material of everyday life and the constructions of language. They taste, chew, bite the words, moving from tenderness to remorseless humor, to silence, to darkness. If life were nothing but a circle, could they possibly break this circle and start from the beginning?

“Town with Wooden Shutters”, first work of a trilogy, is an original theatrical installation with the voices of Amalia Moutoussi and Antonis Miriagkos, soundscapes and light. The audience is invited to a unique theatrical experience, which is based on hearing, emotion, imagination.
