“CULTURE VERSUS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN” – NOVEMBER 25TH: INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
EVENT BY THE MUNICIPALITY OF ATHENS

“CULTURE VERSUS VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN”
With indicative choices from the fields of visual arts, literature, theatre, as well as cinema, which have as their common subject the forms of violence against women, the Municipality of Athens will honor the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, in November 25th, at 19:00, at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.
Statistics relate financial crisis to the rise of domestic violence in Greece, however the image and the word of arts are able to produce culture against violence.
A selection of filmed documents on the subject of the forms of violence against women will be screened, as well as productions by the International Metropolis Women Network for the situation women living in Metropolises experience as far as security issues are concerned.
Stage reading will follow, performed by the actor Alekos Syssovitis who will read extract from the play by Pavlos Matesis “The Dog’s Mother”. The event’s first part will end with the String Quartet of the Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA).
On the parallel, artworks by Despina Meimaroglou will be exhibited at the Ground Floor oversized print and video art installation at the Video Room- on the subject of the battered woman.
Literature tribute is going to be presented at the Foundation’s Shop on the subject of violence against women.
The program will come to an end with the screening of the latest feature film by Petros Sevastikoglou entitled “Attractive Illusion”, a kind concession by the director.
