The Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Peloponnese has been operating for ten years in Nafplion. Not only is a theoretical Department, but also practical, qualitative, active, productive which seeks the Awards of Excellence in Education & Arts.
The Department of Theatre Studies will grab its luggage from Nafplion and will set its stage in Athens, at the MICHAEL CACOYANNIS Foundation, during the 1st & 2nd of June. It is a weekend dedicated to theatre studies, performing arts, education, theatrical theory and practice. Professors and instructors of the Department of Theatre Studies of University of Peloponnese, as well as former professors and special guests, theorists of Greek contemporary, ancient and European Theatre, artists, directors, actors, scenographers, theorists and practitioners of the performing arts and the drama in education discuss the present, the past and the future of theatre as well as its forms, its attributes and its place at the employment market.
Also, guests are the academic directors of Theatre Studies from other Greek Universities as well as the professors P. Mavromoustakos and S. Tsitsiridis. The honored and outstanding director, Michael Marmarinos, will give a lecture under the title “A language behind the languages” while, at the same day, splendid directors talk such as K. Arvanitakis , A. Tompouli, N. Diamantis and the actors, K. Helmi and P. Skouroliakos.
Furthermore, the first day includes inputs on drama in education by specialized professors of the department. Discussions on Performing Arts and Literature take place on Sunday as well as lectures on Ancient Theatre. The art of Cinema seeks its relation with Theatre and the dance-experts explore the relation between Dance and Theatre. S. Tsakiris, an honored director, has his word, while other directors, costume specialists, scenographers and artists exchange ideas. P. Papageorgopoulos, G. Psixoulis, K. Zamanis, A. Stourna, A. Kathariou, T. Likouresis and G. Leodaris, after their inputs, will exchange places with T. Arseni, among with a pianist and seven lyric singers, who will conduct an interesting seminar about the Opera and the Musical, “Directing Music, from Figaro to Cabaret”.
Except from the videos by students, the show of Katerina Psixogiou and DRtV productions, “The city talks” about the Department of Theatre Studies in Nafplion will be screened, too.
The exhibition by the students and their instructor Asi Dimitrakopoulou, “Love as resistance” will take place at the foyer. Moreover, the performance “I spread my hand to you” will take place at the ground floor during both afternoons. It is about the meetings-discussions of students, writers and artists about love generated by a picture.
Furthermore, another retrospective exhibition with costumes by students and alumni will take place at the foyer under the name “We wear what we are, you see what you are”. The costumes were made during the course of Costume making under the instruction of E. Bogiatzaki-Kroukovski.
Nevertheless, the event which will lift off this artistic and intellectual weekend is the inspired performances by students, based on the instruction of G. Leontari, A. Tsichli and X. Zoniou as well as the mimic performances under the instruction of T. Vasilakou. The two-day event will be accompanied by the pianist Lorena Leukokilou and the soprano Valia Athanasia, both students of the Department of Theatre Studies. }
