“The Signature” (126′)
Synopsis:
Anna, a young art historian, is preparing an exhibition on the work of Maria Demou, a well-known painter. The circumstances of Demou’s death some years before remain shrouded in mystery. As she gathers paintings and information, Anna is led to Angel, the painter’s partner during the last years of her life. Angel has kept his memories of Demou alive, and assists Anna with her task in any way he can. He shows Anna paintings she hadn’t know existed, and sheds light on murky aspects of the painter’s life and work between their meeting in Paris and her death. When Anna realizes Angel isn’t telling her the whole truth, her gut feeling is to trust him; she doesn’t want to interpret his behavior as a cover for possible involvement in Maria’s death. And there’s something sinister about Dimitris, the engineer who undertook to renovate Angel’s village house on Maria’s recommendation. Anna has run into sufficient dark areas in her research to consider cancelling the exhibition. When she threatens to do so, Angel is forced to reveal the secret he has kept so well and so long: a secret concerning the truth of life and the beauty of art.
