“Grimm’s fairy tales and their Greek little brothers”

With the story-teller Sasa Voulgari

A wandering to the magical tales of Grimm Brothers combined with Greek brothers of them!

Sasa Voulgari narrates the fascinating stories she picks from the 211 tales, the Grimm Brothers collected 200 years before and she “blends” them with equivalent ones from wonderful Greek fairytales which… look alike and do not, just like all natural brothers!

December 2012 is the anniversary of 200 years since the first volume of Grimm’s fairytales was firstly published in Germany. The volume, under the title “Children and Family Tales” (“Kinder – und Hausmärchen”) included 86 stories. 70 more stories followed in a second volume published in 1814. Up to 1857 seven editions had been published including 211 fairytales in total. Among them there are famous tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Snow-white, Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, The Princess and the Frog, Sleeping Beauty etc

Grimm Brothers collected and salvaged the folk tales marking with their books, not only the literature’s history, as well as the history of thought in general. They inspired great writers, philosophers and members of intellectual elite, contributing to the contemporary perspective for the scientific research of folk tales.

Their little Greek brothers!

Perhaps just a few of us know that now on, the tale subjects are universal and that variations of them are found all around the world. There is, in other words, a Greek Cinderella, a Snow-White and all the rest tale heroes. They have just different names.
