Trilogy 2003

Tribute of Nounou Alexopoulou and Alexandros Fasois to cinematographic adaptation of Ancient Greek Drama by Michael Cacoyannis

Screening of the tribute Trilogia 2003 in concept and direction of Nounou Alexopoulou and Alexandros Fasois offer the occasion to approach, again, the female essence in modern societies, through the prism of ancient drama, the way Michael Cacoyannis perceived it in a monumental transaction of the world of Euripides to Cinema.

A chance to add, over again, realistic dimensions to the symbolisms of the World Woman Day as well as attempt a, more than ever before, crucial reintroduction to the social and political sense of the in question celebration.

Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, obtaining inspiration from the timely symbolisms of its own Founder’s cinematographic approach, from the necessity of a reconsideration of the women’s demands and suggestions up to date, as well as from the honorary intention of their creators, present the screening of a digital production, based on the photographic material and the film scenes from the movies of Michael Cacoyannis entitled Iphigenia, Trojan Women, Electra

An invitation for an afresh understanding of the fundamental for the woman’s place issues, as well as soul-searching on questions that come back, probably consistently into the lives of the world’s women.

Questions, anything else but new-fangled, since they have always occupied woman’s nature and social action through times, turn our attention to the sharp and visionary sight of Michael Cacoyannis, the director who through his cinematic work enlightened in a realistic way, however with mastery to the dynamics of the female nature, settling woman to the centre of the social proceedings. He longed for these dynamics recalling the woman-archetype, through his conversation with the great ancient tragedy poet, Euripides and ventured to present every single aspect of the female universe far beyond from the prism of the stereotypic demands of a society which insisted to see the world only through the male point of view.

Creating Trilogy, with the cinematographic transaction of monumental works for the global dramaturgy, like Electra, Trojan Women and Iphigenia, Michael Cacoyannis illustrated uniquely the image of the woman offering to us the occasion for a new perceiving of this image, free from burdens that settle even to present, some women all around the world to a disadvantaged  place than others.
