1-10 MARCH 2024

Under the Patronage of the European Parliament

The 2nd Athens Independent Film Festival KINO ATHENS is a fact!

Eighty (80!) independent films from every genre and every corner of the world will overwhelm Athens, throughout the first ten days of March. The films will be screened with free admission, from 1 to 10 March 2024 at Technopolis and Serafio City of Athens, the Μichael Cacoyannis Foundation and the French Institute of Greece, under the Patronage of the European Parliament. The program includes competition sections, workshops, masterclasses, DJ sets and other parallel activities, while the screenings will take place with Greek and English subtitles.

The main body of the competition section will run at the Μichael Cacoyannis Foundation, where among others, the nominated films for the LUX 2024 Audience Award, will be presented by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in collaboration with the European Commission and the Europa Cinemas network. The Award Ceremony will also take place at the same venue, where a special jury will award the Large and Small Golden Deer, on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

The new section KINO JUNIOR, addressed to children and teenagers over 3 years old, will be introduced this year at Serafio City of Athens. The section is competitive, as a special jury, consisting of children aged 7 to 13, will award the Kids Deer on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 12:00.

The special screenings of this year’s KINO ATHENS, as well as the opening film of the Festival, will be presented at Technopolis City of Athens. The opening will be given with the film EUROPA, in the presence of the director Sudabeh Mortezai, on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 20:30.

Finally, the film NOTRE CORPS, by the famous independent French filmmaker Claire Simon, will be screened at a special event at the French Institute of Greece, on Saturday March 9, 2024, at 19:00.

KINO ATHENS is realized with the support of the City of Athens, the Athens Film Office and the Greek Film Centre.

“UNVEILING THE KINOATHENS 2024 PROGRAMME

The times that we are living are very uncertain making the importance of storytelling more important than ever. The festival was created under very complex times – the COVID years- and continues to exist, reaching its second edition, with a mission to create a space for artists and creators, to present their work openly. A space of freedom where censorship does not exist, a space of freedom of speech, through art that is borderless, neutral and diverse. Ι am utterly excited to unveil this year’s program: a program that was not easy to be composed, it never is. We received an enormous amount of exceptional works from all around the world. Films that were not easy to be discussed, films that were not easy to be digested, films that made our decision making process difficult. I am very proud of this year’s program for the openness, the freedom and the diversity it reflects of our world.

See you at the cinemas!”

Nina Veligradi, Director KINO ATHENS
