“OBINDA” the last moments of Nikos Zachariadis” by George Kotanidis

“OBINDA”, the play by George Kotanidis, which was staged to immense success during the 2016-17 season, returns to the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation for a new cycle of 12 performances.

The play, which captured its audiences and sparked heated debates regarding the fate of the leader of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), who took his own life in Serbia, is back on stage with George Kotanitidis in the leading role, joined by Dora Chrysikou and Vaggelis Rokkos.

As previously, in this new cycle, each performance will also be followed by a discussion with important figures across all areas of Public Life who will talk about issues prompted by the play about the life of Nikos Zachariadis, in the presence of his son, Sifis Zachariadis. The central axis of the discussions will be the national unity which came about as a result of the famous letter of 1940 in which Nikos Zachariadis, during his imprisonment imposed by the Ioannis Metaxas regime, called upon the people to revolt against the Fascist occupiers. This was an incredible moment of national unity in Greek history of the 20th century which led to victory over the Italian invasion and the birth of Greek National Resistance.
