OPTASIA by Giuliano Bekor

OPTASIA by Giuliano Bekor

OPTASIA is the latest project by world renowned photographer, Giuliano Bekor. The artist, who claims a great love for Greece, is exhibiting the works at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. The collection is part of the LifeArt Festival 2018 and Bekor has especially created works inspired by iconic treasures of antiquity such as Cycladic Art, Black figure pottery, geometric amphorae, classical statues and mosaics of the Hellenistic period.

As stated by the Art historian and Director of the Exhibition, Eleni Koukou, in OPTASIA the “naked female body becomes the canvas on which the artist creates his own idiosyncratic archeology:  a palimpsest of forms and emotions, sometimes dark and sometimes light, reflecting life itself throughout human history”.Ancient Greek symbols and patterns are mapped upon the naked human form creating a “vision of extraordinary deities”.  OPTASIA is truly a beautiful vision to behold!

Giuliano Bekor, a veteran in fashion and celebrity photography in Los Angeles and New York, creates works of large-scale photography, lending his subjects a “second skin” created from various artistic forms. The images, of incredibly intricate detail, are dramatically lit against a dark background and, without any digital intervention, are of impressive painterly quality.
