A Journey through Cinema

With Visuals being the leading communications medium of our times, teachers must be able to respond to a demanding environment where students are constantly bombarded with visual messages which, oftentimes, they are not capable of correctly interpreting. At the same time the increasing familiarization of children with this visual environment dictates a connection between online material and practice with parallel sources of knowledge and communication.

With a twofold goal of entertainment and education, the screenings, which will take place at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, include award-winning films of pedagogical subjects, certified by the “Neaniko Plano” company, offering teachers an invaluable tool to supplement the school curriculum.The initiation into the wealth of the Art of Cinema aids not only in education on the subject but also in enriching and shaping ones view on an array of subjects. It also helps in cultivating the aesthetic appreciation and critical ability of the students as well as developing their sense of perception.

Cinema, as an “open window to the world”, widens people’s spiritual horizons, bringing them into contact with diverse cultures, languages, ideas and eras. The viewer automatically becomes more receptive to that which is new and different. The subject and experience relating to each screening constitute valuable material for fruitful discussions between the children and their parents and teachers. At the same time, viewing a film in an actual cinema involves the students in the social side of this art and its function as a collective experience as opposed to the individual entertainment experience provided by a PC.

The titles on the screening catalogue are diverse and have been carefully selected, divided into categories by subject, thus providing flexibility to the teacher to be able to choose titles depending upon the needs and interests of the students.We invite you to share the magical experience of Cinema with your students in the excellent environment provided by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.Depending upon the interest shown, we may continue the program at your school, with the creation of a cinema club and corresponding workshop.
