PoiosTheleisNaGineis.com a virtual utopia.“OneTwoFree” Theatre Group

The “OneTwoFree” Theatre Group is presenting, at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, the futuristic adventure PoiosTheleisNaGineis.com.  The performance explores the relationship between young people and videogames and the Internet and the distorted perception of reality that is created by continuous game playing which can lead to addiction, when the lines between real life and fantasy become more and more blurred. The performance, with the use of new technology, 3D animation, projection mapping and physical theatre, examines the issues which are of concern to teenagers, and takes them on a trip of self-awareness towards adulthood, in two parallel worlds – that of real life and that of a virtual life in an online game.  The boundaries between online and offline realities are not clear, the identity which defines you is lost or replaced and it appears that the fictitious life is the only one that exists.  Through the play the audience will also meet Odysseus and various famous poetic and philosophical ancient texts.
Play synopsis:  Odysseus, a teenager, is trying to escape the mundanity of daily routine by playing videogames where he discovers an innovative new game involving a virtual reality.  His avatar lives, plays and falls in love in a virtual universe which seems safe, glitzy, and exciting.  The characters of this world find refuge in a place where they can be whoever they want to be, where they are never in danger, as they are untouchable, and even if they were to find themselves in a dangerous situation, the solution is simple:  with the flip of a switch they can start all over again from the beginning.  This is a world which everyone can enter.  There are no criteria, special requirements or entry exams.
What happens, however, when you enter this world, and, mainly, how do you then return to your true identity?

The performance has drawn part of its subject material from research on the phenomenon of addiction to videogames in teenagers, parallel virtual lives and the formation of relationships through videogames.
