Venezuelan Film Festival in Athens 2017

The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Greece is honoured to invite you to the Venezuelan Film Festival which will take place from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th March, at the cinema hall of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, 206 Piraeus street, Tavros.

The Venezuelan Film Festival in Athens aims to present to Greek audiences the development and consolidation of the Venezuelan film industry which is evident from the rise in film production which has reached over one hundred films produced each year, including both feature and short films.

The Venezuelan Film Festival will be presenting six films which represent the country’s cultural background, drawing their subjects from history, from adventure and from modern day reality. The films have been nominated for numerous international prizes and some of them have received important awards such as Goya Awards, the San Sebastian Golden Shell and the Venice Film Festival Golden Lion.

The audiences will have the unique opportunity to discover Venezuelan Cinema through select films such as “Desde allá” which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2015 and which was also nominated at the Goya Awards, “Azul no tan rosa” ,awarded the Goya Award for Best Latin American Film, 2013, “Pelo Malo”, which won 12 international awards, including Best Film, “Libertador”, the Venezuelan entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, “Venezzia” . considered the best foreign language film in America, “El Manzo Azul”, considered one of the greatest films in Venezuela.

It is worth noting that this is the first time that Venezuela is offering a complete presentation of its cinema, in Greece, through the execution of a prestigious festival which will bring the audience into contact not only with the realities of Venezuelan life but also with its history, its joys, the desires and dreams of this Caribbean community which shares much in common with Greece.

It was made possible for the Festival to take place thanks to the support and kind sponsorship of the Venezuelan National Film Centre, the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, the radio station “Sto Kokkino 105.5), ERT, the International New York Times – Kathimerini English Edition, the Journalist’s newspaper in Athens, “KOSMOS 93.6” radio station, Ispania.gr, Culturenow.gr.

All the films are subtitled in Greek and entrance is free.
