«Troas» by Dimitris Dimitriadis Director: Savvas Stroumpos
The play.
Troas is a triplet, meaning three monologues in three parts. In the first part, each of the characters, Priamos, Hector, Astyanax, speaks about the way he lived war. In the second part, each character speaks as one of the other characters. In the third part, Troas speaks with the words of all three: a voice consisting of all three generations and exceeding them, in order to lead them to a full and final summary.
According to the writer..
“War as a human truth could become, like his mortality, a catalytic mechanism in the hands of peoples themselves, so that the latter could find out, understand and finally accept, who he really is. But people not only can’t cope with this kind of self knowledge, but, due to their weakness of withstanding it, have forever excluded it by establishing illusions that have helped them ensuring protective ways out from fighting against the Unbearable. In “Troas”, these exits have been a priori rejected. The 3 dimensional voice of those three different ages, speaks from where the Unbearable itself could speak.»
