“Further on…” (“Parakato…”) | Art exhibition by Yannis Gounas

Giannis Gounas is back at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation with his fifth solo show from Monday 15 until Monday 29 February 2016. With 35 new works, each one representative of the artist’s quest and evolution of his work, as he turns to new colours and the exploration of new themes, where living things and inanimate objects skillfully emit emotions and thoughts and images of real and imaginary life. The exhibition opens on Monday 15 February 2016, at 19:30 at the Exhibition area on the 1st floor of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.

Giannis Gounas, speaking about his show:
“Further on…” (“Parakato…”). My fifth solo show. Works and thoughts from all the phases and “seasons” of my soul.
Images and times which have moved me.
Places full of scratches and wounds…
Strays with emaciated faces and warped colours, birds that still sing, little boats, forgotten and left to grapple with the unknown, fish which gleam in the depths… And human figures. Sometimes tragic..sometimes comic..  Broken and embittered beings, who still dare to hope.
For this exhibition I tired to use different colours, shapes and angles…
I tried to move myself a little further on…
I wanted to close the doors of my heart to convention and unleash the twisted, the wrong, the weak and the harsh…
Emotions that are dark yet intriguing in the continuation of life. Packing my pencils and my pastels, I travelled to faraway destinations. I camped out with my fears and swam in deep water. I fell in love with grey and gave it space on my canvas…so that it may, too, find its path…
And besides, what is the use of blue, white and red if not set off by black and grey.
The balance shall be disturbed.
Join me on this journey as we travel a little further on, through this exhibition which has been warmly embraced by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.
