Ancient Women Faces & Figures | A Performance by Maria Tzanoukaki

Ancient Women Faces & Figures | A Performance by Maria Tzanoukaki

What Sappho, Phaedra and Helen would discuss about LOVE?
How Alcestis, Creusa, Jocasta and Medea would share their common experience of MATERNITY?
Do Pythia, Cassandra and Alexandra bring favorable oracles, as they return from the temples of RITE?
What are the political aspects of Aethra, Clytemnestra, Ismene, Athena and Lysistrata regarding POLIS and WAR?

Along with the above mentioned heroines, there are further ancient women who have remained in silence for centuries, faces that have never been theatrically presented so far, such as: Theocritus’ Simaetha, Thestile, Gorgo, and Praxinoe, Lycophronis’ Alexandra, Callimachus’ Artemis, as well as Theocritus’ Bacchae.

All these ancient heroines coming from the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic Times break the barrier that restricts them trapped in a theatrical play, talking about their passions, lusts, views and aspects which turn out to be similar to those that the contemporary women experience.
