Cinema: From Theory to Practice
(includes the making of a short film)
Daily from Monday Friday 16:00 until 20:00
FROM THE SCHOOL OF CINEMA
The aim of this theoretical and practical intensive seminar is to offer its participants the necessary knowledge about the history and theory of cinema, the expressive means of cinema, cinematic language, the form and style of a film, the production, the screenplay, film acting, photography and editing.
This will be achieved through the screening and analysis of a short film and of excerpts from characteristic feature films, exercises on screenplays and film acting, off-camera theatre rehearsals, on-camera theatre rehearsals and shooting of scenes selected by the seminar coordinator or created by the participants. Each participant will direct one scene, using the rest of the participants as cast and crew.
The participants will learn the fundamental concepts of audiovisual narration and the way in which a story is told through sound and image. They will learn how to turn an idea into an entire screenplay and will discover the ways in which to approach the screenplay from a directors point of view and how to edit it (découpage). Such a screenplay for a short film (up to 5 minutes) will be shot by the participants at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation and at one outdoor location.
