PRACTICAL SEMINARS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY – CINEMA ABOUT THE VISUAL AESTHETICS with the Director of Photography Prokopis Dafnos

The Michael Cacoyannis Foundation is hosting a series of specialized seminars which will focus on visual aesthetics and how that can be creatively applied to film.
The seminar will take place outside the Foundation, in interior and exterior areas, during night and day where the techniques involved in filming will be taught.
The participants will have the possibility to choose or to write their own short script and to create a short film.
The techniques and the uses of different lighting required for the creation of atmosphere and style in a film will be taught during the seminar.
The use of filters and the resulting effects, the use of lenses, jelly lenses and various accessories deemed necessary to properly create a film.
The techniques and the secrets to using a camera will be taught in order for the participants to then be able to make their own films. Through this unique and original seminar, the visual world of cinema will be opened up to the participants, offering to them the knowledge, experience and aesthetic appreciation that is so useful to anyone who decides to become involved in cinema, either as an amateur or at a professional level.
The seminars are suitable for everyone, regardless of age and profession. They will be very useful to students who have graduated from film school who have not had enough tuition in the practice of photography or for those who wish to acquire more in-depth information which will be useful for their film making.
The creation of these seminars was inspired by Prokopis Dafnos, an accomplished, experienced and award-winning Director of photography who will be imparting of his vast knowledge and experience.
After 35 years in professional cinema and in his desire to share his knowledge via teaching, he instigated a new and original method of learning which has been presented over the last few years at New York College, which has resulted in many of his student receiving awards for the films they sent to Greek and International Festivals.
Applications begin at the 1st of October 2014
The first meeting will take place at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation on Wednesday 5 of November 2014, at 19:00 where the exact programme of the seminars will be presented.
The seminar will be spread over 4 months, 4 hours per week (60 hours in total)
