Ledras and Regent Street
by Andreas Koukidis
Satirical Theatre
Directed by Polycarpos Polycarpou
The “Cyprus Theatre Week in Athens” will open with the performance of the award winning theatrical play “Ledras and Regent Street”, written by Andreas Koukidis and directed by Polycarpos Polycarpou, on 14 October 2014 in the Theatre of Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.
The story unfolds at a debauched bar at the corner of Ledras and Regent Street during the dramatic events of the summer of 1974.
At the time Regent Street was a lively place full of night bars and eroticism that captured the imagination of writer Andreas Koukkides. In his mind, it was a road dedicated to the goddess of love, Aphrodite. On the other side Ledras Street was the road of Ares, the god of War. Ledras Street was the place that many killings took place as well as the main division line of war conflict.
Koukkides, in his mastery entwines a drama between the devotees of Aphrodite on the one side and the adherents of Ares on the other side. The set is staged where the edges of love and war meet.
