Moving environmental photo exhibition “2nd Green Project Moving Photo Exhibition: Greek New Talent” in the line of the “2014 Green Project in South America”

The Green Project Organisation and the Michel Cacoyannis Foundation invite you to the press conference for the start of the fourth journey “Green Project in South America: Bogota – Land of Fire, from geodiversity to biodiversity” on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 12:00 noon, in Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, 206 Piraeus str., Athens. The journey is being held under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Hellenic Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change, the Hellenic Regulatory Authority for Energy, and the Goulandris Natural History Museum. The event will be addressed by the President of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, Ms Aikaterini Tzitzikosta and the Director General for International Economic Affairs of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mr Michael B. Christides.

During the launch event, there will be the opening of the moving environmental photo exhibition “Greek New Talent”, which has been curated by Ms Nina Kassianou. The photographers are: Xanthoula Diadou, Olga Gortsa, Ioanna Hronopoulou, Thanos Kostikos, George Kourtidis, Sofia Papastrati, Kosmas Pavlidis, Dimitris Rapakousis, Yannis Stefanidis, Antonis Theodoridis, Marinos Tsagkarakis, Alexandros Tsaousis and Yannis Voulgarakis.

This exhibition will travel with the Green Project in South America and it will be shown in the capitals of the countries along the journey, in collaboration with the local National Commissions for UNESCO. The photographs are related to the environment in the broad sense (urban and natural) and are distinguished for their fresh, alternative vision of talented young Greek photographers, who believe in the power of photography to change our world.

For 14.536 km, 52 days and in the 7 countries of the journey (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina), the 16 distinguished members of the Green Project Organisation, scientists and artists, will capture in photographs and video, 36 green points of interest in relation to the geodiversity, the biodiversity, the renewable energy resources and the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The original material collected will be used for the production of a book and a film documentary.

During the Green Project journey in South America, the above moving environmental photo exhibition will be on display in Michael Cacoyannis Foundation from July 15 to September 7, 2014. From August 4th to 25th, 2014, the Foundation will be closed due to summer vacation.

The Green Project (GP) is a non-profit Organisation founded in 2008, by a voluntary initiative of active citizens, scientists and artists, conducting the so-called “green photo journeys”, aiming to awake environmental consciousness through photography, GP journey in South America is being held under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Hellenic Ministry for the Environment, the Hellenic Regulatory Authority for Energy, and the Goulandris Natural History Museum.

GP’s photographic work has been awarded the “First Award” at the “International Photo Competition 2014” of the Energy Community, European Commission in Vienna, Austria, the “Grand Prize for International Participation” at the “Festival de l’ Image Environnementale 2010” in Paris, France, as well as the “Third Award for the Clean Development Mechanism” at the “United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2010” in Cancun, Mexico.
