TRIBUTE TO LUIS GARCÍA BERLANGA
Bienvenido Mr. Marshall (Welcome Mr. Marshall), 1953, 75 min
Residents of Villar del Río, a village of Castile, await the arrival of the Committee of the Marshall Plan and they organize a big celebration for the reception of the village, which coincides with the presence of a famous folk singer. They wear their best, compose a song in honor of the committee and before realizing it, end to build a new village cardboard inspired by Andalusia. The film parodies the rural life of postwar Spain and is one of the masterpieces of Spanish cinema. Despite the satirical critique of the exclusion of Spain from the Marshall Plan, this film was approved by the Francoite censorship, but cut by about 20 minutes.
