INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
Premiere of the theatrical performance “TWRA MILAW”
at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation,
from the General Secretariat for Gender Equality
The premiere of the theatrical performance “TWRA MILAW” will take place at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation on Saturday, 8th March, on International Women’s Day. The performance is a ten minute theatrical monologue which was prompted by the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and first presented on Monday 25th November 2013 during an event in aid of the above mentioned International day and with the support of the Athens International Film Festival.
The performance is produced by the General Secretariat for Gender Equality and is kindly sponsored by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in cooperation with the Athens International Film Festival and the magazine “CINEMA” www.cinemag.gr, for 21 performances which will take place in the foyer of the Foundation with free entrance.
Marianna Kalmpari wrote and directed the ten-minute monologue, drawing upon true stories of abused women which cover all aspects of the violence committed against them: domestic violence, sexual harassment, rape, and human trafficking.
A young woman reveals her personal story of abuse and the reasons which kept her silent. Now, however, the time has come to speak out!
The actress Dora Sampsona interprets the ten-minute monologue which is followed by a video in which 11 well-know Greek actresses portray scenes inspired by the true stories of women who have been abused and urge every woman who has been a victim of violence to speak out. Now!
More specifically, the team involved in this action are:

The goal of this action is to raise awareness of this great social problem involving infringement of human rights and to inform of the existence of support networks against this type of violence.
Mainly, however, the goal is to encourage female victims of violence to overcome their fear and speak out, to be informed about the support networks available and encouraged to turn to them and ask for help. Violence and abuse against women has taken on gargantuan proportions and knows not social, financial or cultural discern.
Domestic violence is not a private issue but a serious social problem. It concerns us all!
