«Half Jokingly»
Giorgos Maniotis’ brand-new play for this homeland
with Alexandra Palaiologou, Giannis Gounas
Mondays and Tuesdays, at 21:00
The new theatrical play by Giorgos Maniotis “Half Jokingly” is going to have its premiere at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, also directed by him. Alexandra Palaiologou and Giannis Gounas are incarnating the two characters of the play. From Monday the 16th of December 2013 to Tuesday the 11th of February 2014 and every Monday and Tuesday at 21:00.
It is a “bitter comedy” about contemporary conditions in the land we all live in. The cutting writing of Giorgos Maniotis seeks the light of future through twists and allusions, always balancing between the smile and the cry. The problem of unemployment, the corruption of the personal relationships, the new-age war and the tension of the emerging lives are some of the topics that the two lonely siblings are trying to deal with, while trying to survive.
As Giorgos Maniotis notes: “There is always a settled down ship full of little children that have to be eaten. The popular song wants first the unlucky kids and then the ‘lucky one’ that gain loneliness. Nowadays, the Minotaur of unemployment gives no chance of surviving. The majority of the young people is left inside the labyrinth waiting to be found by the notorious beast. Many years ago, the beast was the mincer of wars. A war for every generation and the squares were full of monuments and ghosts of unknown soldiers. Today there is no use of bullets or guns but discharges, low wages and temporary jobs.”
The performance can be watched by people above 17 years old.
