By the 29th of September 2012, there has been 100 years since Michelangelo Antonioni’s birth. He devoted approximately sixty years to filming sixteen feature films and fifteen short films and winning over 150 awards as an auteur of cinema. His last achievement award -the Oscar for his contribution to the seventh art- came to verify his international recognition during harsh times for the Italian Cinema.

Antonioni may be one of the most popular auteurs in the young audience and his films are being constantly watched at retrospective festivals, while his oeuvre has been widely concerned by the critics.

There has been 20 years since the reissue of Antonioni’s entire work under the general title: “Progetto Antonioni” (edition by Carlo di Carlo) and its presentation during the 41st Cannes Festival. And now, -after five years of twenty-two international meetings- the homage to Antonioni’s oeuvre comes to a conclusion with events at the: Louvre’s Museum, French Film Achieve (Paris), Lincoln’s Centre, Institute of Italian Culture (New York), Palazzo delle Esposizioni (Rome and Ferrara). The inauguration of the future Antonioni’s Museum is the ultimate conclusion to this celebration.

Antonioni’s films and documentaries are about to be presented again in Athens, under the initiation of Institute of Italian Culture and the cooperation of Megaron Plus and Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. This retrospective event attempts to keep the unique gaze of the Modernistic Maitre vivid.
