The choreographic workshop concerns much like training as well as enhancement of choreographic methods and technical skills. It focuses on personal artistic progress of each dancer – choreographer as well as upgrade of expertise level. As an alternative to tuition, through practice, dialogue and midwifery methods, the workshops supervision aims to optimize, towards learning benefit, the diversity, on one side on cognitive level, as aesthetical style, as much as aesthetical style, and particular pursuits.
The participants will have the opportunity to work in the Foundation’s venue with individual support in order to produce their own piece. Workshop’s objective, besides the broader technical learning in choreographic techniques, is the formation of particular and personal chorographical questions per participant, as well as the personalized dramaturgic and creative support of their realization, so that, finally, the works every participant creates to be presented in a performance consisted of independent pieces at the theatre hall of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation under the supervision of Stefania Mylona.
The workshop’s duration is three months, from November 2012 to January 2012. It includes four 3hour sessions per month (12 3hour sessions in total) and one performance of independent choreographies in early February 2013. The participants will be able to work on either their own solo, or on the bodies of other participants, or even with dancers they will invite to the choreographic procedure of the workshop, if that considered necessary.
The workshop is open to everyone applying since diversity will be utilized creatively. It is addressed to anyone who desires to be introduced in the art of choreography or to improve his/ her skills. Eligible are professional dancers, choreographers, amateurs of all ages and levels, with sole common factor the desire for choreographic pursuit. The maximum number of participants per group is 15 persons (if interest for participation is higher, a 2nd group will be created).
Stefania Mylona is a researcher in performance studies, choreographer and dancer. She studied dance at the school of Despina Grigoriadou and danced in the company of Maro Grigoriadou in Athens, in parallel with her studies in communications at the American College. Stefania Mylona completed a practice-based PhD in dance and performance at the University of Surrey where she also lectured in dance and became associate of British Higher Education Academy. She holds an MA in European Dance Theatre Practices from LABAN. Her studies have been funded by the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece (I.K.Y.). She has presented her method in various venues in London like (The Place, Laban, Siobhan Davies Studios) while her research in international conferences like Society of Dance History Scholars for which she was awarded with the Graduate Award by the SDHS (US) and the Glynne Wickham Scholarship Award by the SCUDD (UK), the Performance Studies international where he cooperated with Prof Thomas De Frantz, Richard Talbot and Barnaby King, as well as other symposiums.
