20:00 “Chians’ places” (36 minutes, 2009)

A photographic journey, enriched with a selection of recorded selections of literature and music, guides the viewer to known and unknown landscapes of the island full of respect towards the footprints of time and people.

The video presents works by: Yannis Voulgaris, Mihalis Kasternoudis, Yannis Malandrinos, Stamatiw Menis, Yannis Oikonomou, Mihalis Plakotaris, Isidoros Plakotaris, Costas Smirnioudis, Effie Sirviti, Evangelos Farmakis, Apostolos Flioukas

The Photography Club of Chios is active since April 2009. Its members are beginners, amateurs as well as photography professionals, but mainly “lovers” of photography, aged 16 to 55 years. It is located at 26 Amadou Street in the city of Chios. In the exhibition space the host exhibitions, artists’ presentations and workshops with established professionals. The Club’s members meet once a week. During their meetings they study and discuss photography trends and techniques and are dealing with issues regarding  the theme of possible upcoming exhibitions or their future activities.

This is the first film of the Caravan Project, a project run by Stratis Vogiatzis and Thekla Malamou with the title Another World Is Here. It won the Audience’s First price in the short documentary category, in Thessaloniki Film Festival 2012. Photography Stratos Vogiatzis
We embark with kyr Yiannis, who lives in the fishermen’s village of Lagada in the island of Chios, on a journey where the fairytale and reality are the two sides of the same coin, focusing on the opposite forces that color the human soul. We see the world through the eyes of this wonderful human being, in a course that reveals the courage and surpassing of the human spirit.

Chios, around 1960, a few days before school closes for the summer holidays. The friendship between two young boys is ruined, without them wanting it, because of an unfortunate incident. They meet again in the middle of the summer and live their own special summer. But the fall soon comes before they realize it.

FILM SUMMARY
The island of Chios, 1960. Following the sudden death of the local rural guard, the council of the village of Tholopotamos pressures the district agronomist to appoint a new man in the place of the deceased. The available rural guards refuse to go to this village, which has a bad reputation, and where their colleague died in the line of duty. When the village of Tholopotamos resubmits its request and what’s more offers a financial incentive, four of them volunteer for the post. The agronomist appoints and subsequently dismisses one after another when each of the four fails in his mission.
