WHAT A GENDER!
Drug prevention and the promotion of mental health gave the creative impetus for the making of the theatrical performance “What a Gender!”, which will be staged at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation on February 4, 2012 at 8.30 pm.
This extraordinary and deeply encouraging way of sharing the problems which many individuals and families face today stems from the hopes and worries of ten women who shared their stories during group sessions at the Centre for Drug Prevention of the Larissa OKANA.
Their stories were adapted to the stage by dramatologist-musicologist Stella Lambrouli and director-screen play Costas Lambroulis and his assistant, Panayotis Bakas.
With performances throughout Greece and Cyprus, the play “What a Gender!” is now coming in Athens. According to the plot, nine women meet in a public waiting room. They all hope that they will get a “special” certificate issued, a certificate which will be the answer to all their problems. Nine stories of women mothers, lovers, spouses and friends unfold during this encounter.
The characters are played by ordinary, working women who offered their time and creativity to the theatre group. The cast: Toula Antoniadou, Nancy Papaconstantinou, Sofia Kaiti, Varvara Magouliotou, Agathe Tsolaki, Efi Spanou, Ifigeneia Touni, Maria Hahamidou and Vasso Psarianou.
The work of the group was coordinated by Larissa-OKANA staff members Irene Koufaki, psychologist, and Kiki Tsiata, sociologist.
