HOMAGE / PILGRIMAGE Corykeion Cave

The artist Christina Papageorgiou followed an ancient trail heading towards the Corykeion Cave, documenting an artistic expedition organized in 2008 by the internationally famous Polish director Wlodzimierz Staniewski. According to research Corykeion Cave was sacred to the Corycian Nymphs and the Muses, and a place of worship for Pan.

The installation presented by the artist Christina Papageorgiou is a journey in time and space. Maps, photographs, clay imprints of the local plants and seeds, shoe traces from the contemporary pilgrims, sound material and drawings from the actual artistic happening, compose a palimpsest were the collective experience is imprinted. A work on distinct phases, which explores the transformations of an ancient ritual on rebirth and death.

Following the official opening the film Iphigenia at A’ by the Polish director Wlodzimierz Staniewski will be screened that was filmed during the project.
