In a Dark Dark House directed by Christos Lygas
Pain, sorrow, catharsis: The past and the present of two men in a struggle with no winner. A story which was inspired from real life incidents is presented in ”Black Box” Hall of ”Michael Cacoyannis Foundation” in a way that no one expects. Strong emotions alternated on stage in one of the most recent Neil LaBute plays, written in 2007.
The play ”In a dark dark house” was presented for the first time ever in Lortel theatre in New York and deals with the story of two brothers who fight with their own demons, as they live out a story of sexual abuse. In the courtyard of a psychiatric clinic, Terry and Drew face an ugly truth: Drew, the younger one is there under medical supervision and calls his elder brother Terry to confirm his claim that during his childhood was a victim of sexual abuse.
Drew’s appeal brings up the special relationship that exists between the two brothers: Through the pain and the assumption of betrayal, the two men begin to fumble the indelible trace of violent abuse suffered within and outside their family.
The repressed memories of a dark childhood haunt the adult lives of two boys, indelibly marked by the destructive influence of a double attack brutal father who routinely assault and of one young man, whose repetitive destructive action results in a true psychic murder.
The skeletons of this past revived when the two men compete with the pain and betrayal that marked their relationship once and for all.
