IONESCO BLUES in stage direction of Sofia Filippidou
Theatre we have been practicing during the last 10 years with the students of Cretan Student Association has been created in order to fulfill personal needs for theatrical expression and it is “handmade” theatre of need that recycles classic plays as well as poetic texts as entities or in parts.
It uses the method of collage (composition of texts, music, movement, dance, song) as well as the mixture of various theatre genres, emphasizing more on the emotion created by speech and the feeling that is triggered by an image-shape rather than the “plot” of the play.
The performance IONESCO BLUES presented this year has as its base the play -Jeux de Massacre- by Eugene Ionesco and incorporates into the notion of curse virus- massive death (that is approached in the play) the notion of freedom through love and poetry.
This way, the short one-act plays of the game intervene in an erotic and theatrical way (through collage technique) into the plays of Antigone of Sophocles as well as The Bacchae and Hippolytus of Euripides.
From the treasures of the Greek as well as the world poetry we chose this year the Greek Yannis Kontrafouris and parts of the plays “Medea” and “Stefani”.
Finally from the great ones of the surrealistic movement that “stole” the theatre of surreal we have taken parts from our favorite Andre Breton and his poems “La mort rose” and “Ligne brisees”.
Our performance has the form of a music-theatre show of the Attica-comedy or satire and satiric musical cabaret with the company opening a death dance with the love hymn “playing” afterwards with the short one act plays from the “Jeux de Massacre” and the rest poetic texts ending with a festive music-theatrical finale.
New songs and music have been composed due to the performance’s needs. Songs will be performed by actors accompanied by guitar and cello.
