Samuel Beckett’s shorter plays
Breath
A piece of Monologue
Rockaby, in one performance.
Breath is a text of Samuel Beckett, written in response to Kenneth Tynan’s request for a contribution to his review «Oh! Calcutta».
In one moving image and in two sounds Beckett compressed not only his philosophy, but also his total theatre universe.
The only two acts in a man’s life are his birth and his death. The time between them is a moving static image, an image of a landscape. The constant observation of which results in the gradually consciousness of its details.
This is that gives us the illusion of facts’ sequence. However, in the final review they are reported as insignificant and commonplace.
This short play composes the canvas of our production «Breath».
The other two shorter plays of Samuel Beckett: A piece of Monologue and Rockaby are developing with the same speculation, like concentric circles.
