Signs of Life – Lebenszeichen

Stroszek, a wounded German paratrooper, is sent to a fortress used as a munitions depot on a forgotten island. He moves there with his wife Nora and two soldiers: Meinhard, an uncouth and violent character, and Becker, a taciturn intellectual fascinated with Classical Greece. The group of four live together uncomfortably, in complete idleness, but it’s Stroszek who is most affected. One day, while he is surveying the hills, a striking vision appears before him: a valley with ten thousand windmills. Stunned by the noise, he goes crazy, barricades himself inside the fortress and, in broad daylight, sets off fireworks he finds in the depot.
