The University of Peloponnese, the European University Cyprus and the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation proudly announce a new cooperation which is established between the Academic Institutions of Greece and Cyprus honing the two homelands of Michael Cacoyannis, who himself honored both of the countries with his life and work, throughout world.

Starting from the academic year 2013-2014 at the University of Peloponnese, at the Faculty of Social Sciences (Korinthos), the Eponymous Chair European University Cyprus Michael Cacoyannis is being created with the decision which has been reached during the Chancellorship of the Professor Mr. Theodore P. Papatheodorou, at present, Deputy Minister of Education and Culture.

The chair is being established within the framework of the academic contribution of the two Universities as well as, definitely, the significant social contribution of Michael Cacoyannis to the cultures of Cyprus , Greece, as well as abroad. Moreover it aims at the enhancement, the regulation, the promotion and the dissemination of cultural studies as well as the social sciences through specialized lectures, seminars and workshops.


During the academic year 2013-2014, the Professor Kostas Gouliamos, Vice Rector for Research & External Relations of the European University Cyprus, will hold the chair.

The Professor Mr. K. Gouliamos, Vice Rector for Research & External Relations of the European University Cyprus, was born in the city of Kalamata. For more than 30 years teaches and undertakes research in Universities of North America as well as Europe, publishing with a critical perspective a remarkable number of books, essays, and articles on fields of communication, culture and politics.

The Eponymous Chair European University Cyprus Michael Cacoyannis at the University of Peloponnese reflects the deepening of the relations and, principally, the realization of the European strategy about the trans-academic collaborations by the two academic institutions and is being created as a result and extension of the cooperation agreements which have already been made by the European University Cyprus with the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation and the University of Peloponnese.
