The Best of the Best: The award winning films of the 5 years London Greek Film Festival at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation from Friday 11 to Sunday 21 November 2012

Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in association with London Greek Film Festival, launches a 10day tribute to the award winning films, the best of the best movies of the festival; the best moments of the last five subsequent years of its presence in Great Britain.

The instigator of the London Greek Film Festival, director, author and artist of the new media, Christos Prossylis began the project as an experiment, which evolved to become a tradition. The Hellenic Centre of London was the first location to host the festival in November 2008. In 2010 the festival relocated close to the artistic neighborhood of Portobello Road in the atmospheric Westbourne Studios. Giving voice to a special form of expression of Greek cinematography abroad, year after year the festival gained recognition and prestige. A dynamic meeting point for Greek and foreign cinematographers, artists of moving image and new media, script writers, producers, actors and cinema friends, it constitutes a great opportunity for the presentation of new talents and trends.

Dozens of modern films are submitted every year to the festival committee by Greeks, Greek Cypriots, and expatriates from all over the world, but also from foreign directors whose work demonstrates a Greek interest. The selection for the competition is picked out from films with varied thematic material. Long and short fiction movies, documentaries, animation, video art and experimental movies, as well as scripts with evident orientation to independent cinema are these who provide the stigma of the new wave of Greek cinema that reacts, hopes, dreams and vindicates. During the Greek Film Festival of London, tributes to great creators, special projections, seminars, workshops and conversations are arranged and organized. The cream of the crop of the festival is the spontaneous or organized events, with taste and music, and the conferment of the Odysseus prizes that offer a Greek note to the British capital.

The completion of the five years of the London Greek Film Festival stands as a motive for the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation to organize and host a 10day tribute to the best moments of this independent and vibrant event. It is an event that supports and brings into sight the Greek creator and a bright side of Greece that strives for a better future through talent, knowledge and hard work.
