IKEBANA EXHIBITION

Ikebana  is the Japanese  traditional art of flower arrangement. The tradition dates back to Heian period (794–1185), when floral offerings were made at altars. Later, flower arrangements were instead used to adorn the tokonoma of a traditional Japanese home.

The term Ikebana comes from the combination of the Japanese ikeru (生ける, to arrange, have life, be living) and hana (, flower). Possible translations include ‘giving life to flowers’ and ‘arranging flowers’.

The art of flower arrangement developed with many schools coming into existence at the end of the 15th century.

At this exhibition the arrangements will follow rules of the Ohara School. The varying forms of arrangements share certain common features like branches, leaves, grasses, moss and fruits. The branches follow 3 main lines symbolizing the:  sky-human being- ground. The flowers according to their maturity symbolize the: past-present-future. The lines-colors-volume also the vase-material-place develop the harmony that Ohara School of Ikebana suggests. Ohara School believes that it is important for its students to observe nature.

The arrangements that will be presented are: Bunjin, Rimpa, Hanamai, Moribana.

The motto of Ikebana International is “friendship through flowers”, following this, we are happy to welcome you at this event.
