The successful performance “Honor Dissolution” returns at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation on Monday 14 October for a limited number of performances.
Agamemnon, Antigone, Kassandra, Medea, Orestes.
5 heroes from the Ancient Greek Tragedy apologize about their hideous crimes in a symposium in Hades at an eternally repeated moral court, a circle without escape.
Heroes that reached hubris, prompted by their passion for wealth and power, the supernatural elements, the opposite sex, the administration of justice or the defense of honor, sometimes by trespassing their faith and sometimes by losing it.
Director’s note:
When we started preparing the texts for the performance, after several discussions and exchanging of ideas, we came up with the play’s monologues. We took then this first material and we set up the whole play in this base. We took the monologues of the five characters, from different plays of Aeschylus, Euripides and Sophocles in order to show the different versions of hubris.
With only a few prototype texts of Anna Moraitou, who also did the translation of the monologues and the choral parts, I created a collage. I tried to create something interactive. It has some realistic elements-the heroes are sitting around a table where they eat, drink and discuss- but there is also the fiction approach because the characters origin is the myth. That means that in some cases the monologues are broken, that they became dialogues. Someone intervenes, the heroes address to someone. The texts are presented in such way that we have a play with a specific structure of a beginning, a core and an end.
