Summer School on the Ancient Greek Drama of Bacchae with the actor – director Lydia Koniordou, at the Aloni’ Theatre in Mount Pelion | From Mon. 20 July to Sun. 2 August 2015

The actor, director and acting professor Lydia Koniordou, renowned for her specialized work on ancient Greek drama and the “Aloni Theatre”, will lead a unique seminar on Euripides’ “The Bacchae”, followed by a presentation.
 
The seminar is organized by the “Aloni “Theatre, with the support of the Center of Ancient Greek Drama “Desmi”.
 
The seminar will include students and young actors from Greece and other countries, and will be held in Greek and English.

SCHEDULE
 
Monday to Friday, 20-25/7
  • 11am- 3pm daily voice and body training, special for ancient Greek drama, with Lydia Koniordou in a forest of exceptional beauty.
  • Play analysis
  • 7pm- 11pm rehearsals at the “Aloni” Theatre, a unique 500 seats theatre, under the forested mountain, with a breathtaking view over the sea. There will be a full moon.
 
Saturday – Sunday 26-27/7 Days off.
  • During one of the days there will be a trecking tour through the old passages in the forest of the wonderful mountain of the Centaurs, Pelion
 
Monday – Friday, 28-31/7
  • Same schedule
 
Saturday, 1 / 8
  • Work in progress presentation before an audience at the theatre.
Walter Puchner, professor of Theatre Studies at the Athens’ University will hold a discussion with the actors and the audience about the play.
 
 
Sunday, 2 /8
  • Visit to an archeological site of the area, with special interest on ancient theatre. [There will be a bus for the purpose]
 
SEMINAR COST
 
OPTION A: 300 EURO
  • Free stay at the village’s renovated, old traditional School rooms
  • The school has cooking facilities and can cover breakfast and light meals.
  • Possibility of daily super market supplies [cost not included]
  • Food cost in the village’s traditional taverns is not included.
  • There is a special price offer of 8 Euro per meal, for the participants of the seminar.
  • Walking distance of the School from training and theatre space takes 15 – 20′ of pleasant walk through the traditional stone roads -‘calderims’ of the village.
